Campfield Cracks in Comments; Calls LGBT Advocates Bullies

Stacey Campfield AP Photo/Erik Schelzig, FileStacey Campfield is failing at any attempt to remain respectful in the ongoing discourse regarding his proposed bills.

As the Huffington Post points out today, Campfield “responded to some of his critics Monday morning, debating them in the comments section of the Knoxville News Sentinel.”

I’ll let both the HuffPo and the News Sentinel articles speak for themselves, and you can review my concerns (and some of Campfield’s responses to my posts) in my previous pieces here.  But I do want to say THANK YOU to Mary L. Wilson of Knoxville for writing her open letter to Campfield and to all those who responded in the comments section of her letter, taking him to task for his aggressive and targeted attacks on LGBT youth.

The HuffPo points out that “On Feb. 1, Campfield called into TMZ Live and gave several soundbites. He called LGBT advocates ‘the biggest bullies in the world’ and said he wished the gay community would ‘quit trying to ram it down everybody’s throats… and quit pushing it on everyone. Just leave us alone.”  Mr. Campfield, we are not bullies.  We are defenders seeking equality in a world where bullies like you have pushed us back long enough.  You should head your own advice and leave US alone.
