November is Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month but on September 19, the Recalcitrant Cancer Research Act (formerly known as the Pancreatic Cancer Research & Education Act) was passed by the U.S. House of Representatives. But we still need the U.S. Senate to pass this bill before the end of the year so that it can be sent to the President and signed into law. Please click the link above (or here) to send a letter to your Senators urging them to make passage of the Recalcitrant Cancer Research Act a top priority during the final days of the legislative calendar.
This is so important to everyone but for me it means that losing my mom and Papaw to this devastating disease was not in vain. Each year I join the Lustgarten Foundation in their NYC Pancreatic Cancer Research Walk in honor of my mom and Papaw. As I noted in my previous post, pancreatic cancer took my mom in August of 2008 just seven months after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. My papaw died in 1985. Both suffered immeasurably and it was the most painful experience I have ever been through in my life. My family and I were confused, upset, angry but determined to see my mom through this (and my papaw too, though I was much younger and didn’t fully understand the situation). Today we are stronger and more unified than before.
So please take a moment and follow the link to send a letter to your Senators asking them to make the passage of the RCRA a top priority before the end of the legislative calendar.
